Mardi Gras is Donut Day at Umpleby’s!

We’ll be frying our amazing yeast raised donuts in celebration of the last day before Lent.

We’ll have glazed, crullers, chocolate dipped, Boston Cream, and Bavarian Cream and maybe some jelly filled too.

Donut Day is not a day to be missed! The only reasonable excuse to miss such an important day is that you are in New Orleans instead.

Sadly we won’t be selling King Cakes this year. Truth be told I burned the hell out my right hand making them last year so I decided that King Cakes weren’t my thing. I still have a nice scar where the molten sugar got me. But enough of that ……..

The Cooked Breakfast is Coming to Umpleby’s!

This is something I’ve been wanting to do in the cafe for a long, long time. But first, the planets had to align, it had to be a leap year, the staff had to be just right, Perry and Bachman had to drop out of the race.

This friday, February 17 we will be offering eggs and all that comes with them. For your consideration we will be posting our Cooked Breakfast Menu on Wednesday (or maybe Thursday).

To start we will be offering Umpleby’s Cooked Breakfast from 7:30 am to 10:30am Fridays and Saturdays. Hopefully, if it is well received we will be pleased to extend the days that we offer it.

Valentine’s Day – What are we doing about it?

So Valentine’s Day weekend is upon us in two days.

Here are some things that we will be offering that have a good chance of making your significant other or main squeeze happy should you purchase them. (you’ll probably notice that there is a decidedly chocolate theme going on)

Chocolate Truffles (think Harry Met Sally at Katz’s)
Chocolate Souffle Cake (it’s flourless for your gluten intolerant loved one)
Chocolate chip cookies (don’t underestimate the power of a good chocolate chipper)
Chocolate cupcakes with festive red sprinkles (fun to share and eat)
Heart Shaped Sugar Cookies (not chocolate but it has the heart shape going for it)
Chocolate Caramel Tarts with the appropriate heart decoration on top
6″ The Chocolate Cake (we capitalize “The” for a reason!)

On a completely unrelated note to the new year we had a visit today from Jon Huntsman. Yes, that Jon Huntsman. He sat in the cafe for about a half an hour or so giving an interview to someone. I had the opportunity to shake his hand and receive compliments from him on the cafe and the food. (I know, would a candidate come in and slam an establishment that he was trying to cull votes from? – still it was cool!) Sorry I have no pictures to post but some customers who were here took some of him.

Iowa can have the rest of the candidates.

New Year’s Eve Orders – Make Make Yours Today!

Now that Christmas is behind us, there is still time to plan for your New Year’s Eve Celebrating. Look to Umpleby’s for sausage rolls, curry pies, sourdough breads, baguettes, rolls, fruit mince tarts, desserts, pastries for the morning after and such. After the kids have gone to bed, break out the champers and eat some fine food from Umpleby’s!

We will be open New Year’s Eve until 6pm and Closed New Year’s Day.
